May’s Featured Artist: Little Low

We hope you enjoyed the art in May’s box. Picking out the art is definitely a fun part of my job every month. I could get lost for hours on Etsy if I only had the time. Caitlin McClain of Little Low was the featured artist this month and we picked her print Wild and Free. After she agreed to work with us, I learned about her awesome story and her own “wild and free” moment in life. Here is the print and what she said about it:

“This print, and the majority of the Little Low line, was inspired by the year I took to live and backpack throughout Central and South America. I had finished college, fallen into a 9-5 job that I was unhappy and bored with, and saw many of my friends start to get engaged, married, and have kids. Life was wonderful for them because they were ready for these big steps – I was not. I wanted to see and do more. So I saved up funds for about a year with my sights on moving to Costa Rica, never having been there before in my life! I stayed in Costa Rica for about 7 months and absolutely loved the country but thought I still needed to see more, so I picked up my things and backpacked through Nicaragua, Panama, and Colombia. In total, it was an amazing year that I will never forget and will forever cherish. That year abroad, and just making the bold and scary decision to move abroad, was my ‘Wild and Free’ moment. Now that I’m back in the US. I try to incorporate that mantra into everyday life. I think we all could use a few more ‘Wild and Free’ moments!”

Here she is in Bogota, Columbia.

Another of her on a canopy tour in Costa Rica.

I must say that being a mother of two, a wife and working full-time I hardly feel like I have the luxury of being wild and free! But this print is a gentle reminder not to take everything so seriously. Don’t you think?
